About Kimstar Yoga Hermanus

Kim taught Yoga at various fitness studios in Hermanus before Covid times. (Fusion Fitness, Yogaheart, Proactive Gym, Organic 
Fitness,  Hemel en Aarde Estate). She now offers offers small, personal group classes, live online and Private Lessons.
Her style is Vinyassa, from slow, beginner level flows to creative, energetic yoga flows. Kim also guides deep stretching, relaxation, and Restorative Yoga classes. 

ABOUT  KIM CORNELL: YOGA INSTRUCTOR

I completed my 200 Hour Teacher Training at the Shala in 2012, training in Vinyassa style yoga, and my 300 Hour Advanced Teacher Training at the Wellness Connection in Intelligent Sequencing.

I have also attended many Iyengar workshops to explore safe and blissful  alignment of poses.

My flows are slow and mindful,  starting my classes with deep stretches and warmups of the areas of the body we will be focusing on, then working up to a peak pose. 

Through my yoga, I intend to realign, balance and unblock the meridians (energy lines) so we can move towards a state of harmony.  The process of yoga  creates inner awareness, and so allows suppressed emotion and pain to surface, so that it can be processed and let go of, if willing.

 This subtle aspect of yoga is not an easy path, and takes disciplined focus, deep self examination and self acceptance, in order to let go and create changes within. This is where the work moves off the mat and determines how we live our daily lives with Integrity.The flow of my yoga practice helps me to access my Heartspace. 

Releasing tension in our muscles and tissue/fascia through the physical yoga practice, helps to clear our body/"temple" of physical toxins, and dig up emotional blockages, on a deeper level.

Bringing lightness/awareness into blocked areas of  our body, helps us on our path of spiritual transformation by shifting behavioral patterns that hold us back. 

The yoga brings us to a place of inner Stillness, beyond our minds, where we can access our Heartspace, and allow the healing to happen. Some breathing/ pranayama practice during a class helps awaken our Intuition. 

I grew up in Cape Town, and at school my interests were writing,  making clothes, modern dancing and swimming. I obtained a degree in Journalism and Psychology at Rhodes University, Grahamstown. I worked in the film industry in Johannesburg and Cape Town for ten years as a stylist, which was exciting but the long  hours left little balance in my life.

My life slowed down after having twin boys and I moved to an Animal Training Farm in Botriver with my family. Ten years later,  after my divorce, I moved to Hermanus, where I am now teaching yoga. 

Since my 20’s, yoga has been a support  when I was anxious, overwhelmed or disconnected from my true self. It has helped ground me in Peace, and inspires me on my spiritual path, to live my life with Integrity. After a class, my perspective can change  100%. 

I have attended workshops in various styles of yoga with the following teachers: Jim Harrington, Simon Ben Shimon, Patrick Krielman, Simon Rowe (Prana Vinyassa),  David Reglin, David Jacobs and various Iyenger teachers.

I spent some time at the Osho Ashram in India, discovering many forms of movement meditation.

I created a small clothing range of yogawear called "Kimstar" in Hermanus.

I now also offer my services as a freelance copywriter.


I enjoy a super quiet, simple life.
